WHAT PARTIAL BIRTH ABORTION IS NOT

Partial Birth Abortion (PBA), medically known as Intact Dilation & Extraction (ID&X) is NOT the same as Dilation & Evacuation, medically known as Dilation & Evacuation (D&E).

A common search source such as Wikipedia errs in its definition.  Neither the U.S. media nor the public know the difference.  Even political opponents for the office of the President of the United States do not know the difference, the incidence of late second term Dilation & Evacuation D&E today, that such late second term abortions continue in spite of the 2003 Ban Act of Partial Birth Abortion as upheld by the Supreme Court in 2007, or that infants aborted by Dilation & Evacuation D&E today in the 22nd through 28th week LMP (late second term) have been medically proven to be viable or potentially viable if born in hospital NICU’s at that point.  In short, very little is understood about Dilation & Evacuation D&E.

Since the start of this blog in 2008, approximately 150,000 viable babies have been terminated through Dilation & Evacuatio D&E Abortion during the second half of the second trimester term of pregnancy.  The percentage of all abortions in the United States may be small (i.e. 0.02%), but the actual NUMBER of real live babies is huge, some 20,000 per year on average.  One must think in terms of a tragedy six times larger than the number of horrible deaths in New York on 9/11/2001.  Even worse than that, the method of killing these viable infants by Dilation & Evacuation D&E is more horrific and primitive than the method used to terminate babies by the banned method Intact Dilation & Extraction IDX.

In the surgical Dilation &Evacuation D&E procedure, the child is killed in the uterus of the mother, the head is crushed, the limbs are shredded from its body, and the fetal parts are suctioned from the womb together with scraping of the lining (usually monitored by ultrasound).  The fact is, that the child CAN feel pain at this stage, yet its arms and legs are torn from its body.

Late second term Dilation & Evacuation D&E Abortion should be banned by law just as PBA was more than a decade ago (with the same exception, i.e. when the life of the mother is in grave danger…not so-called “health” of the mother).  For proponents of abortion who also support late second term Abortion, such as candidate Hilary Clinton, the members of Planned Parenthood, Emily’s List, Guttmacher Institute, and most of the Democrat legislators in Congress, simply denotes ignorance of the facts.

Dilation & Evacuation D&E Abortion should be renamed Dismemberment Abortion of Viable Infants.  It will be banned in due course—but it should have happened 10 years ago.
